CNC Health, Safety & Wellness Fair
On Saturday, October 13, 2007, CNC will hold its third fair organized in Miami-Dade County focusing on informing communities about the connection between nutrition, fitness, safety and wellbeing. The CNC Health, Safety & Wellness Fair is a free event open to the public that was created to serve the needs of the underserved Hispanic and the immigrant communities of Miami. The Hispanic community is the most under insured ethnic community in Miami-Dade County. The CNC fair will take place at Douglas Park located at 2755 SW 37 Avenue, Miami, Florida from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
A key fair objective is
to bring clarity about the dangers of obesity and
co-morbities in our community. There is a special need to
change the perception of African Americans and Hispanics
that being plump is healthy. This means changing and
educating the perceptions of an entire community
including parents, grandparents and other extended
family such as aunts and uncles who are overweight and
do not consider this a problem.
Additionally, CNC wants to
bring attention to best practices programs available to
inner city neighborhoods that otherwise would not have
access to them. The fair featured distinguished health
care experts from both the local and national levels who
participate as speakers together with many local
hospitals, health care providers, and health
organizations that will provide free health
screenings/exams, literature, health & nutrition
presentations and other educational materials to over
1,000 community residents who visited the fair grounds
at Shenandoah Park.
