Cuban-American National Council (CNC) Reiterates Support For AT&T and T-Mobile Merger

09/01/2011

‘Technology a Key Component to Building Bridges Across Communities’

Guarione M. Diaz, President and CEO, Cuban-American National Council (CNC) released the following statement:

"CNC is a non-profit organization providing human services to persons in need from all racial and ethnic groups.  CNC assists individuals to become self-reliant and builds bridges among America’s diverse communities.”

"At CNC, we recognize that technology is a key component to building these bridges across communities and accessing economic opportunity.  This is very true when we talk about wireless broadband.  Mobile broadband technology opens a wide world of opportunities from jobs, to healthcare, to education, especially within our community. Both Hispanic and African Americans outstrip white American usage by a wide margin.”

"Technology also creates jobs.  That's why we continue to support AT&T's merger with T-Mobile, despite the Department of Justice’s recent decision to try and block the proposed AT&T-T-Mobile merger, a merger that promised to create thousands of high-quality jobs for all Americans.  This is particularly painful for the most vulnerable in society who are trying to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and need the flexibility and mobility of a high-speed wireless broadband network.  We need jobs and a level playing field for our community to get ahead.  Yesterday's DOJ decision will have the unintended consequence of exactly the opposite.  To that end, we hope that as the DoJ moves forward with this process, the agency will find a workable resolution to its issues and not stand in the way of progress for our communities and nation."
