Centers for Hispanic Educational Progress (CHEP)

The Council’s multi-state Centers for Hispanic Educational Progress (CHEP) are a U.S. Department of Education-funded public information, training, and technical assistance project. The Centers’ main objectives are:

  • Providing culturally effective education, training, and technical assistance on choice and supplemental services provisions of No Child Left Behind.

  • Reaching families, faith based groups, and community organizations  through a public information campaign highlighting educational best practices and effective teaching/learning strategies for Hispanic.

  • Counseling Hispanic families with school-age children in relevant elements of No Child Left Behind and other educational policies, assisting them in understanding choice and access to supplemental services provisions of the Act.

  • Developing a pool of qualified providers of supplemental services who proved successful in helping Hispanic students and others for whom language and culture constitute barriers to educational achievement.
