ALPHA Program
Academic Leadership &
Career Preparation for Hispanic American Youth
The mission of the ALPHA Program is to improve academic achievement and career opportunities for Hispanic American youth. The program seeks to engage and motivate high school student’s grades 9 – 12 and Out-of-School youth ages 16 – 21, and to increase academic performance, high school graduation rates, and college admissions. ALPHA provides participating youth with goal-specific career planning, and with academic support and opportunities through:
- Academic tutoring, mentoring, and basic and social skills development
- Preparation for post secondary education and occupational training
- Career guidance, career exploration, internships, OJT, and job shadowing
- Motivational and team activities geared toward developing their commitment to academic and career achievement, and their ability to work in groups toward shared goals
The ALPHA Program cultivates workplace proficiency through a training curriculum that builds and draws upon basic reasoning, math, and language skills as applied to the world of work.
ALPHA also provides AFTER SCHOOL services combining a YOUTH AND FAMILY DEVELOPMENT strategy. ALPHA effectively integrates counseling academic tutoring and support services with a program of motivational, health and fitness, social, career, and life skills trainings and activities leading to improved student engagement in the learning process, higher academic performance and improved social skills, physical fitness and peer and family bonds
